New to Town
Set in the densely populated town of Brookline, MA the property offered an unusual expansiveness and sense of privacy for its new owners. Decades of neglect combined with a new set of needs necessitated the complete reshaping of a landscape. The clients had bought the property "for the land" and wanted a private oasis within the urban context.
Along with the plans for a swimming pool, pool house, and an expansive deck the masterplan addressed the property as a whole to establish an integrated series of open lawn spaces, extensive planting areas built features within the half acre framework.
While most of the elements in the existing landscape were of little use, two features present in the original landscape did feature prominently in the final plan. The mature cherry specimen provided an important anchor to the design and provided welcome mid-day shade to the new deck area. An existing circular bluestone patio was carefully removed, catalogued, and then repositioned as a central element in the completed design. |
