New to Town
Set in the densely populated town of Brookline, MA this property offered an unusual expansiveness and sense of privacy for its new owners. Decades of neglect, combined with a new set of needs, necessitated the complete reshaping of the landscape. The clients had bought the property "for the land" and wanted a private oasis within its urban context.
The masterplan addressed the property as a whole to establish an integrated series of open lawn spaces, extensive planting areas, and built features within the half acre framework. Key built features of the plan include a swimming pool, pool house, and an expansive deck.
While most of the elements in the existing landscape proved unusable, two features did feature prominently in the final plan. A mature cherry tree provided an central anchor to the design as well as welcome mid-day shade to the new deck area. An existing circular bluestone patio was carefully removed, catalogued, and then relocated to form another key element in the completed design. |
